1. Overview

PublicSchools.ca (“we”, “us”, or “the site”) is an independent directory of Canadian public schools and school boards. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

2. Information We Collect

  • Directory data: School names, addresses, phone numbers, grade levels, and board information are compiled from official public sources.
  • Account information: If you create an account, we store your email address, display name (optional), and a securely hashed password.
  • User submissions: Reviews, comments, edit requests, saved schools, and teacher-verification requests are stored with your account and reviewed before publication.
  • Usage data: We collect anonymized traffic data through Google Analytics 4 and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
  • Moderation data: When you submit content, we may store your IP address and approximate location (country/region/city) briefly to prevent abuse and spam.

3. Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure

We display advertisements through Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

You can learn more about how Mediavine uses data in the Mediavine Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting the Mediavine Ad Partners page or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out.

Some pages contain affiliate links, including our “Back To School Supplies” link to amazon.ca (real-estate listings are also included). PublicSchools.ca is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program: if you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or take another action, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Outbound retail links include an Associates tracking tag, and when you click them, Amazon may set or read cookies on your device to attribute the referral, as described in the Amazon.ca Privacy Notice.

4. Cookies & Tracking

We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in to your account
  • Remember your saved schools and preferences
  • Analyze site traffic and improve the directory
  • Serve and measure advertising through Mediavine and its partners
  • Attribute affiliate referrals when you click outbound retail links such as amazon.ca (Amazon sets these cookies under its own privacy notice)

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work correctly.

5. EU, UK and Switzerland User Consent

For visitors located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we request consent before placing Mediavine advertising or analytics cookies. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time through your browser settings or the consent banner shown on your first visit.

6. Children's Privacy

PublicSchools.ca is intended for parents, guardians, educators, and adults researching Canadian public schools. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
